  3. Oh, hi. I'd like to find out about sailing courses for beginners.
  4. No problem. Is it for yourself?
  5. Yes. I had a look online,
  6. but I'm not sure which course would be best.
  7. OK. Well, you might be interested in our taster days.
  8. Possibly. So these are for people who've never sailed before.
  9. It's basically an introduction to sailing to find out
  10. whether you enjoy it and want to carry on with it.
  11. And how much is that?
  12. It's £120 for the day,
  13. but it's reduced to £110 each if there are two of you.
  14. No, it would just be me.
  15. Oh, that's fine.
  16. You'd be in a small group, usually about eight people,
  17. but no more than ten.
  18. and everyone's always very friendly.
  19. And are there any other suitable courses?
  20. The other option is the Level 1 course.
  21. These are two-day weekend courses and we run those all year round.
  22. OK. And what do you learn on that course?
  23. This is a mix of theory and practical skills.
  24. So you learn about things like the weather,
  25. which is obviously really important,
  26. and also the tides, as well as learning basic sailing skills.
  27. You go out into the harbour in special training dinghies for beginners,
  28. two people in each dinghy and an instructor.
  29. He or she will make sure you understand everything
  30. you need to know about safety.
  31. It sounds like hard work.
  32. Yes, but you'll have a lot of fun too.
  33. And the cost of that one is?
  34. £200. But it's a bit cheaper if you decide
  35. to join the club.
  36. There's a discount for members.
  37. Well, I'm not sure about that yet.

  39. And does the cost include everything?
  40. Yes, everything's included.
  41. And you also get a really good dictionary explaining
  42. all the sailing terminology.
  43. A lot of people struggle with this at first.
  44. It's got lots of pictures,
  45. so I'm sure you'd find it really helpful.
  46. And on completion of the course, you get a certificate.
  47. Then you're ready to move on to the Level 2 course.

  50. Just a couple of general things.
  51. For example, it's really important that you know how to swim.
  52. Yes, I'm pretty confident in the water.
  53. Great. The other thing I should tell you is that
  54. we provide wetsuits and life jackets.
  55. but you need to bring swimming trunks and some old trainers.
  56. And a towel?
  57. Yes, definitely. And you might want to bring your own toiletries,
  58. things like shampoo.
  59. OK. What about food and drink?
  60. Do I need to bring that
  61. or is there a cafe at the club?
  62. Yes, you can get sandwiches, cakes and snacks there.
  63. The food's pretty reasonable.
  64. OK, good. Well, I think I'm interested in the Level 1 course.
  65. But I know absolutely nothing about sailing,
  66. so is there anything I can do to prepare myself a bit?
