- Today, this area is called the Dewars Farm Quarry in Oxfordshire, England.
- But during the Middle Jurassic Period, dinosaurs called this area home.
- How do we know this?
- 200 distinct sets of tracks that are still visible 166 million years later.
- So many dinosaurs walked this path, paleontologists are calling it a "Dinosaur Highway."
- The discovery happened when a worker in the limestone quarry noticed some strange bumps on the ground.
- That prompted a team of more than 100 people from local universities to carefully excavate the area.
- To document their work, the team took more than 20,000 digital images.
- Drones were used to get a bird's eye view of the massive footprints.
- Paleontologists have identified the footprints of both herbivore and carnivore dinosaurs.
- The scientists hope future studies of this area will give more insights into the size and shape of the extinct creatures.
- And now that we know where they walked,
- they may even give us an idea of the speed at which they walked.
- But here's the real question:
- where were all these dinosaurs going?
