- Here's something you don't see every day.
- Captain America, stranded.
- His motorcycle broken down on the side of the highway.
- Driving past the strange sight, a deputy sheriff turns around to help out.
- I turned over and saw a motorcycle, looked like it was broken down and...
- Captain America was standing next to it.
- So I went down to the nearest exit, turned around, and came back to chat with him and see if he was okay.
- The guy in the Captain America costume is 35-year-old Matt Gnojek.
- His bike is kaput.
- But when the deputy hears where Captain America is heading,
- he decides to do more than just call a tow truck.
- "I'm going to pay for it."
- "No, no, no."
- "It's Christmas time, and it's okay. Don't worry about that."
- "But I can't in good conscience leave your bike here."
- Captain America is stunned.
- "Don't make me pull rank. I'm a captain."
- So Deputy Zepeski paid $140 out of his own pocket for the tow.
- Why?
- Because Captain America visits sick kids at hospitals across the USA,
- bringing them a little good cheer that only a superhero can offer.
- "I can just envision all those kids' faces at the hospital there and how cool they think that would be."
- In the movies, Captain America always saves the day.
- But this time, he's the one who needed to be rescued.
- "People get to see me with this red, white, and blue shield on my back,"
- and they say, 'Oh, you're a hero for doing what you do.'
- "And that's not what real sacrifice looks like."
- "He was the real hero."
